Paspanguwa (Herbal Remedy)
As the summer heat leaves us and we move into autumn and colder days you might feel tired, body aches, run down, headaches, sniffles... here is a little Sri Lankan home remedy that can help.
The traditional decoction is called “Paspanguwa” consisting of five plants. These are boiled in water to produce a decoction (‘Peyawa’). These packs will be available in store (contact us here to check stock). If you want to DIY and are not able to find all of the ingredients used in the traditional version, some of the essential ones are sure to be in your kitchen so give it a go if needed!
You can prepare this simpler version using 2-3 tbps coriander seed, 1 tbsp each dry ginger, long pepper, dried licorice root and palm sugar. Add all in a pan with 3-4 cups water and bring to boil. Strain and drink while warm. Have up to 2 cups a day.
