Switching up your coffee or tea and swapping it with organic cacao is a great way to boost immunity, reduce inflammation and give you a radiant glow.
Being Sri Lankan I can’t help but reach for a cup of black tea with milk and sugar at some point in the day. It’s just a part of our way :) More recently however, and especially in winter, I have started swapping every other day or so with this hot mug of cacao goodness that is super healing and good for you.
This blend has organic cacao powder, turmeric, a little pinch of black pepper, cinnamon, a pinch of cardamom, and a little flax meal. Add hot water, hot plant mylk (I used oat) and a little honey (I sometimes skip this because there is so much sweetness from the milk and cinnamon already)
If you think of and use cacao like a spice it helps to avoid overuse. Mix a 3/4 to full teaspoon of cacao with 1/4 tsp turmeric, a sprinkle of black pepper and cardamom and a generous pinch or two of cinnamon (swipe to see how it stacks up)… then add 1/2 cup hot water and mylk to your desired strength. Mix well and drink hot.
The cacao is balancing to kapha dosha (great in winter) - bitter, pungent, light, dry, heating and stimulating but can aggravate pitta and vata dosha. Use with care if you are vitiated here. However, balancing the tastes with the oily flaxseed (balya for immunity and medhya - for brain tissue and high in Omega 3 fatty acids, digestion), the warming, sweet and pungent cardamom (for digestion, gas, bloating), the wonder spice turmeric blended with cinnamon and black pepper (excellent for reducing inflammation, reducing blood sugar, supporting collagen production) and adding the sweetness of milk is wonderfully balancing overall.
Try it this winter and let me know how you go - email me here with any questions!
